To customize the blade, remove one end from the grip, remove rust and dirt, and soak it in tea 8: vinegar 2 for about 1 hour. Then, black rust processing can be done cleanly, and a wonderful My Original Knife is completed.

How to remodel
The new Opinel is common to stainless steel and carbon steel, and the blade is not sharpened properly, so it is difficult to cut. If you are concerned about the sharpness, it is recommended to sharpen the knife before processing the black rust.

Work started!
First, lock the blade with the blade closed. When removing, attach the tape to the parts lock parts, then open the blade with pliers and remove the lock parts. Then remove the pin holding the blade. (Tape is a preventive measure to prevent parts from flying.) Hit the punch with a hammer from the opposite side of the sticking side to push out the pin. When the pin comes out, pull it out with pliers. The pliers can be grasped without slipping than the needle-nose pliers and nippers, so remove the blade with this plier. Finally, twist the metal parts attached to the grip to remove it, and the disassembly is complete.
Blade processing
Apply water-resistant paper to remove rust and dirt on the blade. I think the sandpaper number should be about 1000. After removing rust and dirt, wash it thoroughly with detergent and then thoroughly remove the oil with silicon off spray. If oil or dirt remains here, it will greatly affect the subsequent black rust ride, so work carefully! Mix black tea: 8 with vinegar: 2 and soak the well-defatted blade for about 1 hour. If you make black tea as strong as possible, black rust will be applied cleanly. After soaking for about an hour, bubbles will appear and the liquid will turn black and turbid.
Please be careful! There are two types of Opinel blades, carbon steel type, and stainless steel type. Stainless steel is originally resistant to rust and does not need to be black rusted. Carbon steel has good sharpness, but red rust is likely to occur, so it is necessary to perform black rust processing on a regular basis. Be sure to check which type your knife is!
After soaking
After soaking, pull the blade out of the liquid. If the color is not clearly printed here, it seems that degreasing was insufficient, so let’s start over with a file again. If the black rust is on well, pump it up in the opposite way of disassembly and the black rust processing is completed!
Grip processing
Opinel knives are made of wooden grips. Therefore, if it contains water, it will expand and it will be difficult for the blade to move in and out, soak it in oil for a day so that the grip part does not contain much water. You can use walnut oil, but it is best if you have other edible drying oils such as sesame oil. Walnut oil and sesame oil are also used for finishing wooden tableware, so they are safe for the human body. (Olive oil does not easily combine with oxygen, so it dries even if left unattended and does not form a coating film, so it is sticky forever and is not very suitable for finishing.) It is completed by soaking it for one day and drying it!
When drying, it is recommended to spread the oil on the blade evenly and wipe it lightly, and then let the blade come out to give an impression. This is because walnut oil is a drying oil that combines with oxygen to dry and form a coating film, so if you dry it with the blade closed, the oil will dry and stick. Please be careful as it may become uneven as it is.
