[Self-made custom] Great success in camping! Introducing how to custom and use original metal matches, Shieldon

A fire starter required for bonfires and BBQ. Generally, you can ignite the ignition material and you’re done, but let’s enjoy this fire! That is a fire starter using a metal match. Metal matches are also called fire starters, and as the name implies, they are fire-starting tools. This time, I will introduce how to custom an original metal match and tips for making a fire using a metal match.

A metal match is a tool that sharpens a stick to make a fire. To use it, just sharpen it and make a spark! On wholesale even at $1

Metal matches are also known as fire starters.

To use it, use a magnesium or ferrocerium rod called a “rod” and a metal tool called a “striker” to generate sparks to create a spark.

Metal matches are sold by various manufacturers, and there are various products such as thickness, handle, rod material, striker and so on.

In fact, it is also sold at the $1 shop Ceria, and you can start a fire firmly! Celia should be afraid.

This time, I will introduce how to custom an original metal match.

However, since the rod is made of the same material, I will show you how to custom an original metal match by custom the handle.

Before that, I will explain in detail the basic knowledge of “rod” and “striker”!

[Basic knowledge of rods] There are two types of metal match rod materials with different ignition temperatures: magnesium rods and ferrocerium rods.

There are two types of metal match rods.

[Rod material]

  • magnesium
  • Ferrocerium

The difference between magnesium and ferrocerium is the ignition temperature.

Ferrocerium is an alloy of iron and cerium, and is characterized by a lower ignition temperature and more sparks than magnesium.

.

Therefore, many of the metal matches sold use ferrocerium.

I bought both and tried them, but I didn’t notice much difference in using them.

You can’t tell the difference in appearance, so you can wholesale either one without worrying about it!

[Basic knowledge of striker] Any sharp metal match striker is OK! Recommended is an Opinel knife

There are various shapes for the striker that cuts the rod, but any one that is a little sharp can be used.

You can use the striker that comes with the rod, or you can use a multi-tool.

My recommendation is an Opinel knife.

You can use an Opinel knife to custom a feather stick, or use the back instead of a striker to start a fire, so it’s recommended!

Introducing how to custom an original metal match! Let’s make your own handle to enhance the design and function!

Then, I’m going to custom an original metal match … The rod alone looks lonely and slips and is hard to hold!

So this time, I will show you how to custom your own original handle.

Attach a wooden handle

[What to prepare]

  • Rod (Φ10mm)
  • Woodwind or round bar (Φ15mm)
  • electric screwdriver
  • Drill (Φ10mm)

This is a method of attaching a wooden handle to a metal match rod.

Prepare a woodwind or round bar with a diameter of 15 mm.

Cut a woodwind or round bar to a length that is easy to hold.

Make a hole of Φ10mm in a woodwind or a round bar with an electric screwdriver.

After that, put the rod in the handle you made and you’re done!

It’s fun to color the wooden handle with antique wax.

Attach the original handle with a paracord

The paracord used in the parachute is a thin and durable material, so it can be used for various purposes. Depending on how you tie it, you can make it attractive in various ways.

This time, I will custom a handle for the rod using a paracord.

[What to prepare]

  • rod
  • Paracord (thickness 2 mm)

Since the rod is small, I think a thickness of 2mm is just right.

I made 3 types of pattern rolls using paracord.

Each pattern is different, so it’s fun to try it with your favorite winding method.

It is a round and slippery rod, but it cannot be unraveled if you consciously tie it strongly.

It’s much more gorgeous than the rod alone.

Paracord is an abbreviation for parachute cord, and as the name implies, it is a rope that connects a parachute canopy (umbrella) and a person.

Due to its strong durability, light weight, and easy drying, it is used for various purposes such as fishing thread (used by pulling out the thread inside), car towing, tent rope, and sneaker string.

From the background used for military parachutes in the old days, it can be widely used as a fashion accent such as military and EDC style accents. In recent years, more and more people are using it for children’s accessories, bracelets, and important pet collars.

The tip of the rope melts and hardens when roasted with fire, so use it without fraying.

[Explanation of how to use] Tips for ignition of metal matches! If you prepare by scraping with a striker several times ◎

Here are some tips on how to ignite a metal match.

A metal match is a spark-flying tool, so you have to ignite something.

[Order of fire starter]

  1. Metal match
  2. Charcross
  3. Hemp string
  4. Dead pine leaves and feather sticks

If you put them in the above order, you can start the fire smoothly.

Metal match rods are often coated black and will not spark as they are bought.

Shave it with a striker several times before using it, and remove the coating until it sparks before using it.

Once you have the hemp strings and feather sticks ready, it’s time to start the fire.

First, scrape a magnesium rod on the charcloth cut into 3-4 cm squares and sprinkle with metal powder.

After that, the sparks that fly ignite the metal powder and spread to the charcross.

First of all, be careful not to shoot sparks.

[Self-made custom] Great success in camping! Introducing how to custom and use original metal matches, Shieldon

Next, scrape the rod toward the metal powder to shoot sparks.

As soon as the charcros ignites, transfer the fire to the hemp string and let it ignite while blowing on it.

Then move it to branches, dead grass, feather sticks, etc. to increase the fire.
