Hello! Spring is Campers_aki, a camping association instructor who is busy with gardening and camping. OLFA WORKS will release “EDC Knife SANGA”, a full-scale knife that embodies the knowledge of cutter making and the polishing technique of craftsmen. This time, I would like to introduce the charm of “SANGA” ♪

The appeal of “SANGA” is its 3.2mm blade thickness and tough full tongue structure!

OLFA, famous for its “folding blade type cutter knife,” launched it as an EDC brand called OLFA WORKS in the spring of last year, making use of its knowledge and experience in making cutters, and has released bush craft knives and other products.

And this spring, we will release a full-scale knife “EDC Knife Sanga” (SANGA) [hereinafter, SANGA], which is a must-have item for camping!

The charm of “SANGA” (1) ★ Full tongue!

2021 New ★ OLFA WORKS full-scale full tongue knife “EDC knife Sanga” (SANGA) is now available!, Shieldon

“Full tongue” is a type in which the metal that makes up the blade penetrates from the tip of the knife to the back of the handle, making it the toughest of all knives.

As you can see from the back of the steering wheel in the above picture, the full tongue is only Sanga.

You can baton with a knife that is not full tongue, but it may break from the root. If you want to baton, we recommend a knife with a full tongue structure that you can hit hard.

Attractiveness of “SANGA” (2) ★ 3.2mm thick stainless steel blade

2021 New ★ OLFA WORKS full-scale full tongue knife “EDC knife Sanga” (SANGA) is now available!, Shieldon

The blade thickness is 3.2 mm and 6A stainless steel is used. Most of the stainless steel used for general office scissors is 420J2, which is in the middle of the 8A high stainless steel material, which has a good balance between ease of processing, rust resistance, and hardness. It is a material.

The blade has a clam shape (same shape as a general hatchet or ax) polished by a craftsman, and has a structure that maintains sharpness and does not easily chip.

The charm of “SANGA” (3) ★ Easy-to-grip and sophisticated design

2021 New ★ OLFA WORKS full-scale full tongue knife “EDC knife Sanga” (SANGA) is now available!, Shieldon

The grip is an ergonomic design that OLFA has cultivated with a utility knife and can be used naturally, reasonably and efficiently. It is designed so that it will not get tired from the viewpoint of ergonomics even if it is used for a long time.

The material is a high-strength grip that combines polypropylene containing 30% glass fiber and elastomer, and the aluminum die-cast emblem in the center creates a sense of luxury.

A full tongue knife equipped with a 3.2 mm thick stainless steel blade. Not only cutting and shaving, but also batoning is possible because the blade has a full tongue structure with a thickness of 3.2 mm. In addition, since the blade is made of stainless steel, it is resistant to rust even when used in water or in the rain or night dew. The blades carefully sharpened by craftsmen have a clam-shaped cutting edge, which not only cuts well, but also has long-lasting sharpness and durability that does not easily chip.

The back of the knife has sharp edges, so you can rub a fire starter against it to create a spark. The sheath integrates a clip that can be attached to a belt or the like. There is a barb on the inside of the clip to prevent it from coming off unexpectedly …

I tried batoning with “SANGA”! The author who does not usually do batoning with a knife is also convinced ♪

2021 New ★ OLFA WORKS full-scale full tongue knife “EDC knife Sanga” (SANGA) is now available!, Shieldon

I usually baton with a hatchet. The land sword he has is mainly for cooking and he doesn’t do much batoning with a knife. I don’t have a full tongue, so this time I tried batoning with a full tongue knife for the first time.

There is a fundamental difference in the mechanism between splitting firewood with an ax or hatchet and splitting with a knife. Rotational energy concentrates on the cutting edge of the ax and hatchet due to centrifugal force, and the force causes the ax and hatchet to crack. In the case of a knife, by hitting the cutting edge, the cutting edge becomes the point of effort, the part of the blade becomes the point of action, and the place where the grip is held becomes the fulcrum, and it breaks by this principle.

As a result, batoning with a knife increases the number of hits without swinging a heavy ax or hatchet, but it does not require power.

★ Batoning at “SANGA” ★

I’m not used to batoning with a knife, so it’s hard to insert the blade, and I can’t hit the blade edge and I have to hit near the handle, but it still cracked easily (laugh)

Stylish sheath

Another point of the batoning knife is the sheath knife. A sheath knife is a type of knife that is carried by putting it in a sheath without folding it.

Folding knives are structurally less strong at the handle, so they are distorted and unfoldable or break from the handle while hitting, making them unsuitable for batoning.

“SANGA” plays an active part as a fire starter in the bonfire in the solo camp.

I’m not very dexterous and I don’t usually custom feather sticks, but I found that it’s still easy to sharpen (laughs) If you’re used to feather sticks, it’s a very easy-to-use knife ♪

If you can custom a feather stick, it will ignite the firewood. I tried it with a 100% magnesium rod.

When I rub the magnesium rod vigorously on the back of “SANGA” …

A lot of sparks! If this is the case, even those who are not good at ignition will easily catch fire. Using “SANGA” will make it much easier to disperse a large amount of spark than using the attached metal plate of 100% ♪

Conclusion: “SANGA” had enough specs as a knife to enjoy camping ♪

We introduced “SANGA” this time, but there is no universal knife in the camp. The company’s “Bushcraft Knife BK1” introduced here is overwhelmingly powerful in feather sticks and crafts, but it is not suitable for batoning.

“SANGA” is a knife suitable for batoning, but when it comes to fine craft work, it will not be able to beat “Bushcraft Knife BK1”.

Also, as a survival knife, it may be easier to use a wave blade suitable for ivy and rope cutting and a type with a slightly wider blade width. The point is that what you choose depends on what you have the knife for.

The only thing I can say is that “SANGA” has enough specs in terms of enjoying general camping. If you don’t need a special purpose, “SANGA” is a recommended knife because it is made of stainless steel, which is hard to rust, has a good sharpness, and has a stylish design.

Ah! Please note that it is against the law if you carry the knife carelessly because it is cool. Also, it cuts well, so if you try to pick it up while looking away, you will get a cut like the author, so be careful!
